  • Asia Source 3 meeting reinforces Asian Free and Open Source Software movement [it@inwent]

    - 150 representatives from Asian NGOs and SMEs gather for open source camp
    - Open source advocates discuss tools, business models, and communities
    - Theme of Asia Source 3: Building Capacities and Empowering Humanity through FOSS

    While most technology conferences happen as swanky, slick, and well-rehearsed events, the recently concluded Asia Source 3 took the opposite track and ran a camp that was spartan yet spontaneous. From November 7 to 12, 2009, Asia Source 3 gathered 150 representatives from all over Asia in the Philippines to discuss developments in open source. For those six days, the campers lived in a communal environment that married fun and relaxation with exchange of ideas.

    Discovery Suites, Ortigas

    Bluepoint Foundation, in cooperation with the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), will be holding the Philippine Sahana Initiative (PSI) on April 24, 2007 at the Discovery Suites in Ortigas.

    Sahana is a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Disaster Management System (DMS). It is a web-based collaboration tool that addresses the common coordination problems during a disaster from finding missing people, managing aid, managing volunteers, and tracking camps effectively. Sahana has become the de facto DMS with immense backing from humanitarian and non-government organizations worldwide.

    The International Open Source Network (IOSN) and InWEnt Capacity Building International-Germany, are inviting developers in the health sector to participate in a conference-workshop on FOSS health application development. The event is organized and managed by the Open Source Health Care Alliance ( www.oshca.org). IOSN and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through InWEnt Germany are sponsoring the conference-workshop.
